Claire Holiday seems like she has it all – a big, huge house; a famous father who is a world-renowned television star; and friends galore. What people can’t see is that she is so tired of being called “The Ghost Hunter’s Daughter”. Her dad, Miles Holiday has his own ghost-hunting show on television called Invisible Intelligence. When her father is out on location shooting his shows, Claire’s Aunt Lizzie stays with her because Claire’s mom, Penelope, passed away quickly from an illness.
The Creepy Crew: Friends or Fiends? 👻👫
Claire notices at school one day that a creepy boy watching her. She thinks that maybe he is a fan of her dad’s show, but when he finally approaches Claire, she is blown away by what he tells her. Lucas Kent lives with his Gramma Irene while his parents are working along the coast helping rebuild communities destroyed by a hurricane. The thing is… Gramma Irene speaks to ghosts to help them get messages to loved ones. Lucas doesn’t know that he also has this ability until one night when Claire’s mom’s ghost visits him for a message to give to Claire. There is also Dolly, but wait… we aren’t there yet.

Lucas tells Claire that her mom’s ghost has visited him and told him to let Claire know that her father is in danger. When Claire calls her dad’s producer she does find out that her dad is missing. No one is taking it seriously and Penelope’s ghost will not leave Lucas alone until they go themselves to find her dad. This sends Claire and Lucas on an epic adventure that will change their lives forever. They skip school, board a bus, and head to one of the most haunted towns in the United States.
Spooky Settings: A Haunted Lake ☠️🛶
Claire’s dad was investigating the very haunted and very dangerous Hush Hollows Falls. The research Claire discovered was that in the 1900s there was a town called Hush Falls. Lemuel Hush was the wealthy founder of this town but one day the state decided to dam up the river downstream to create a water supply for cities closer to the coast. This meant that the town of Hush Falls would be flooded. Lemuel Hush died shortly after this happened and now haunts the lake that now covers his home. There have been many people who have drowned in this lake, including Dolly’s mom. She was investigating the hauntings when she met her demise.

Let’s go back to the ghost crew. When Claire and Lucas find their way to Hush Holler Falls their first stop is the motel where Claire’s dad had checked in. This is where they meet Dolly. Her dad and grandparents run the motel. Dolly wants to help them so the three of them begin their own investigation of this haunted town. After swiping her dad’s equipment from the police station, they find a video of Miles at the lake. He sees the ghost of Lemuel Hush, he runs away, he falls, and he hasn’t been seen since.
Plot Twists That Will Haunt Your Dreams 🔄💀
Gramma Irene knows where they went and she shows up in Hush Holler Falls. She is furious with Claire and Lucas but in the end, she decides to help them. As they are approaching the lake, Tanner Worley, Mile’s stalker, approaches them and says he is following her dad. As he was searching for him he noticed a flickering light in the middle of the lake. Will Claire and her friends have the nerve to cross the haunted lake that has claimed so many lives? Will Lemuel Hush and all of the other ghosts that are trapped in this lake allow them to even approach the island? Will Claire ever find her dad or will she find that he has become another victim of the Lemuel Hush? Read this incredible, spine-tingling, terrifying novel by Dan Poblocki! What I Love About This Book! ❤️
One of my favorite things about this book is the friendship and trust between two completely opposite people. Claire and Lucas do not run in the same circles but when they are forced into an adventure that neither of them expected to be on, they learn to lean on each other when times get hard.
I also love the twist that Dan Poblocki throws in at the end of this book. There are very few books that make my jaw drop but this is one of them. When I say that I did not even come close to predicting how this book would end is an understatement. This was one of the biggest shockers to the ending of a book I have ever read. Loved, loved, loved this book!
