Do you sometimes feel like you are different from others? Does that difference make you feel good or bad? Well, Sassafras did not like her difference! Sassafras is a squirrel, and most squirrels have big, bushy tails. This helps them to balance when they jump from tree to tree. The problem with Sassafras is that she has a teeny, tiny, bristly tail. So because she is different, the other squirrels make fun of her.
It doesn’t matter that she is the fastest squirrel to gather the acorns. It doesn’t matter that she can avoid the mean dog because of her speed. All that the other squirrels see is what is different about Sassafras… that is until there is an emergency, will Sassafras’ difference make her shine? Read this precious story of overcoming differences, being proud of your strengths, and doing what is right even if it means helping those who have hurt you.
Why I love this book!
I love this book for so many reasons! I like that Sassafras, even though her feelings are hurt, tries to troubleshoot her problem. It makes me so happy that Sassafras realizes her strength of speed and appreciates it, even though no one else does. I also love that Sassafras jumps in to help, even if she is helping those who have not been so nice to her. This book shows tenacity, persistence, and determination.
The illustrations in this book are delightful! The colors are so bright and cheerful. I also love how the illustrator shows emotions in all of the characters. You can tell what they are feeling just by looking at them.
What makes this book so amazing?
One super cool thing about this book is that it is written in Dyslexic Font. Each letter is given its own identity making it easier for people with dyslexia to be more successful at reading. The last page of the book gives more information about this. It tells you how to get this font for your digital devices. It also tells you where to get more books with this font.
