What is a great friendship book for elementary and middle school kids?
Cookie & Milk by Michele McAvoy is!
Has your best friend ever gotten on your nerves? Can complete opposites even be best friends? Well, Cookie and Milk prove that the answer to both of these questions is yes! Cookie (a nickname from her dad because she is so sweet) is book smart and loves science. Milk (because her little brother can not say her real name, Mikaela) is very daring and loves to do stunts. When they were younger, their different personalities would annoy each other, but true blue friends don’t stay mad at each other very long. Now that they are older, they inspire each other to be their best. Cookie creates amazing inventions because of Milk’s fearless ideas and Milk implements her heroic feats because of Cookie’s creations. And what are all of these incredible creations and daring acts? Well, you will have to read this sciencetastic* book to find out! (*sciencetastic = science & fantastic).
Why I love this book!
This book is such a fantastic book! These two girls show that diversity can be a great thing! They don’t care that they are complete opposites; they use their differences as a plus. Another reason to love this book is that it is educational also. Throughout the book the little brother is funny and the author uses this to give definitions of scientific words. Another cool thing is at the back of the book. Michele McAvoy gives you facts of extraordinary women who excel scientifically and athletically. I think my favorite part of the book is the very last page that displays “s” words that make a best friend! What a much better world this would be if everyone implored these characteristics!! And I would be amiss if I didn’t mention awesomely amazing illustrations. The colors are bright and the drawings are incredible!
